Papercraft Research
There are various forms to express one's own imagination and ideas which are shown on the artworks. Among those things, Paper-craft is a three-dimensional paper sculpture that collaborating two or more objects exclude any digital mediums. paper artwork, which originally came from eastern countries, is still in a process of development with new series and shapes of paper. Paper-craft is made by a similar steps of Origami like folding, cutting, and lastly attaching these pieces of paper to set in order to be seen visually beautiful.
Deepti Nair and Harikrishman Panicker, who are collectively known as Hari & Deepti, they are an artist couple whom create paper cut light boxes for example of the images below. Between each various shapes of paper, different colours of light(and with paper together) are used to express the depth of one picture. As if it creates a realistic atmosphere even though the mediums that are used in this work are only papers and LED lights. They make the paper that lighting behind it to be viewed as the mystical effect and also has an impact to make viewers to feel impressed.
Hari & Deepti began their experiment with those paper cut shadow boxes in 2010 with their creation of diorama. Continuing to their experience, they started to experiment with lights and expressing the paper by colours of lights in result of the fantastic aspect of paper to modern art culture.
They are also story tellers who tells their imaginative stories to life through creating paper cut light boxes. Many shades and depth in the stories, paper helps to reflect and interpret them.
As they said, "it is playful, light, colorless and colorful. It is minimal and intricate. It reflects light, creates depth and illusions in a way that it takes the artist through a journey with limitless possibilities." It makes me to be interested In creating this kind of art, and inspires to getting into this paper-craft world. I love its depth of light and the mood of fairytale in a small box. It is an opportunity to express my own idea and imagination to reflect on this paper-craft.
