Concept Generation and 3D Hybrid Design Printing

For the last class, we individually designed six concepts of hollow vessel by using Rhino 6, and then developed one of concepts with a partner to combine them to make a hybrid design. This project is required using FDM 3D Printer, and we took some time to learn how to use it and how the process is going to be.

First of all, each we created six concepts of hollow vessel below, and I tried to make the shape interesting and also easy to collaborate with another concept from my partner so that FDM 3D Printer can create it.

My objects

He chose the last one in the second picture, especially the star-shaped on the top of the vessel.

My partner is Len, and we shared our idea to pick favourite one among six concepts. I actually like the first one in the first image.

Concept generation. I sketched the collaborated design that what this might look like.

Firstly I wanted to mix those two objects but not his design being concealed. I tried how they all can be emphasized, and decided flipping his shape on the bottom of my object. Then we think about that star shape to adapt both top and bottom.
We tried to make the angle to be seen more smooth, and he twisted the three legs with the star shaped closing which we matched up alike with the top design.

Next step, we began to make our hybrid design to be 3D with using FDM 3D Printer in ThingTank.

start with the three star shaped bottom, and I already expected how it will be shaped at this time.

Good! I really like this design, but we realized that the leg is quite long after this printer make that shape.

Good!

Successfully, we got this! It takes more than 3 hours which was not short time, but I am really satisfied with our collaboration that we developed each ideas.

I am very thank for his effort and enjoyed working with him.
